Test Instant Unstaking and the New Staking Portal on Zilliqa 2.0

The mainnet launch of Zilliqa 2.0 brings a massive shift in the way staking works, and users should prepare to move their staked ZIL over to the new network to start earning rewards and playing a role in securing the network as soon as possible once it goes live.

Once mainnet goes live, the old staking system will no longer yield rewards, and users will be able to unstake without having to wait for the unbonding period to pass before claiming their staked ZIL. 

To make this migration as smooth as possible, we have developed and will maintain a new staking portal on the Zilliqa website. 

You can now test the new network’s Instant Unstaking from Zillion and try out the new Staking Portal on the Zilliqa 2.0 proto-mainnet.

This is a fantastic opportunity to get hands-on experience with the future of staking on Zilliqa and familiarise yourself with the tools before the mainnet launch.

Follow the steps below to get try out the new features on the Zilliqa 2.0 proto-mainnet:

How to Test Instant Unstaking:

Follow these simple steps to try out Instant Unstaking:

1. Open ZilPay wallet and head to Settings > Network. Change the network to “Private” and enter the following in the URL field: https://api.zq2-protomainnet.zilliqa.com
2. Request testnet ZIL tokens from the faucet at the bottom of the webpage here: https://dev.zilliqa.com/zilliqa2/endpoints/
3. Visit https://zillion.zilstg.dev/ and sign in as a delegator using your ZilPay wallet.
4. Click “Claim rewards” and confirm the transaction in wallet.
5. Then click “Unstake” and confirm the transaction again.
6. After the transaction is processed, unstaked balance will be available for withdrawal. Simply withdraw it back to your ZilPay wallet.

Key Points to Consider:

• If you encounter a “gas limit maxed out” error, request an additional 500 proto-mainnet ZIL and increase the gas limit to 100,000 first and 200,000 later (if 100,000 does not work) when claiming your rewards. Gas limit can be adjusted in the Advanced Settings when the transaction confirmation pop-up appears in Zillion.
• You can only request testnet ZIL from the faucet once every minute. Please wait a short while before making another request.
• You will only see your staked balance and unclaimed rewards if you were staking ZIL on the Zilliqa mainnet before December 2024, as a snapshot was taken at that time for testing purposes on the proto-mainnet.

How to stake ZIL on New Staking Portal:

Ready to start staking on the Zilliqa 2.0 proto-mainnet? Follow these steps:

1. Head to https://chainlist.org/, search “Zilliqa”, and connect your MetaMask or Rabby wallet to the Zilliqa 2 EVM proto-mainnet.
2. Visit the staking portal at https://stake.zq2-protomainnet.zilliqa.com/ and connect your wallet.
3. Request proto-mainnet ZIL by clicking the “+ZIL” button at the top of the portal.
4. Once you have received the ZIL, decide whether you want to stake using liquid or non-liquid staking.
5. Select a validator from the list, enter the amount of ZIL you wish to stake, and click “Stake” to approve the transaction.
6. The transaction will process within seconds. Congratulations, you are now staking ZIL on Zilliqa 2.0!
